Parma, 1st September 2018 – Following a physical performance in Parma’s midfield, Antonio Barillà then had this to say after Saturday’s game against Juventus: “We’re disappointed by the result, but we kept the game alive right up until the very last minute. We knew that Juventus were strong, but we did well to keep them at bay. With a bit more luck we could’ve picked up a point. We cannot be angry at ourselves. We tried and now we must focus on the performance.
“Running hard is my speciality and I tried to use this to help the team. We did well and we put in a great performance despite the result. We conceded the early goal but then we woke up and tried to play our game. We scored the equaliser and threatened Juventus. We were pinned back a bit at the start of the second half, particularly as they picked up their rhythm, while we were also focused on avoiding their through balls. However, we can’t be disappointed in ourselves. We tried to get another equaliser and if we’d scored again in the first half then we could’ve got a result.
“The result is negative but the performance gives us confidence. It helps us understand that we can achieve our objective if we play like this against all teams. Gervinho? He was a great signing, and he can help us make a leap in quality. He demonstrated what he can do during the first half, running at defenders and creating chances.”
