Parma, 12 February 2019 – On Saturday, Parma will travel to Cagliari on matchday 24 of the 2018/19 Serie A TIM season. Let’s now take a look back at the previous encounter this season.
THE KEY WORD: CONSISTENCY
Parma hosted Cagliari on matchday four after having recorded their first victory of the season away to Inter the previous week. The match against the Sardinian side was an important one, with the Crociati looking to gain some consistency: “We have to go on the pitch aware that it will be a very difficult game and we will have to try to get the three points because points picked up against these types of teams are doubly important,” said D’Aversa before the match.
On 22 September, Parma took to the pitch with the following line-up: Sepe, Iacoponi, Dimarco, Stulac, Barillà, Di Gaudio, B. Alves (cap.), Gervinho, Gagliolo, Rigoni, Inglese. The Crociati began strongly, with Gervinho firing narrowly off target with his left foot after cutting inside. Nevertheless, the opening goal arrived shortly afterwards: Dimarco’s ball found Inglese in behind, with the Parma striker then getting the better of the onrushing Cragno to give the Crociati the lead.
A GOAL FOR THE HISTORY BOOKS
After going in front, Parma continued to push forward. Barillà forced a save from Cragno, the ball for Gervinho who looked to pick out Rigoni but his header was off target. After the ball, the goal to seal the win arrived and it was one for the ages. Gervinho received the ball in his own half and set off. He beat one, two and three opponents before applying the finish.
Cagliari looked to respond with a Sau effort from close range but it was Parma who went closest to making it 3-0 when Barillà set up Ceravolo on the break but his effort was saved by the opposition goalkeeper and so it finished 2-0 for us.
“The important thing is to continue with this mentality and to always know how to hang on in games,” said Rigoni after the game.
