LUIGI SEPE AFTER UDINESE-PARMA: “WE WANT TO CONTINUE ON THIS PATH”

Udine, 19 January 2019 – After playing a key role during Parma Calcio’s eighth win of the season on Saturday, Luigi Sepe had this to say in the Stadio Friuli-Dacia Arena mixed zone:

“It was a really tough match, we knew that coming here would be a battle. We managed to get the best result possible. We must be happy with how we played and how we won, however, as of tomorrow, we’ll already be focused on our match vs. Spal. It wasn’t easy after they equalised at the start of the second half and things could’ve gone differently after Udinese regained their enthusiasm. We did well to remain in the game, playing with tranquillity, fighting for every ball and scoring on the counter-attack from a player who is crucial for us.

“My best performance? I’m only focused on the team. I’m happy to have won but disappointed to have conceded. However, I’m pleased to have secured all three points. Am I thinking about a National Team call-up? I can honestly say that, no, I’m not thinking about it. It’s a dream for every player but it can only happen by working hard out on the pitch. I’m only thinking about playing with Parma, as both an individual and a team. We have to get as many points as possible in the league standings. Only by doing this will we be able to talk about Parma and their individuals.

“This really is my best spell because I’m working well in training and I’m reaping the rewards at the weekend. However, I’m not taking this for granted and it wasn’t a foregone conclusion that I’d manage to prove my worth, especially after a few seasons where I didn’t play much. Our aim now is only to reach the 40-point mark that will keep us up, then we’ll think about growing further. Parma, this city, these fans, this club and this team are all part of my natural habitat now.

“You can see this through my performances and how I’m doing well. We want to continue on this path. 28 points are a lot. We now have another dogfight on Sunday, playing Spal at the Tardini. This will be crucial for us because another big result would leave us in a very strong position. We only need 12 more points to reach our objective. We’ll fight until the very end to reach this tally. Once we’ve achieved this, then we’ll look at how many matches are remaining and see we where we go from there.”
