Parma, 18 May 2019 – Coach Roberto D’Aversa today spoke to the press at Collecchio on the eve of Parma vs. Fiorentina on matchday 37 in Serie A TIM.
Here’s what he had to say:
“Day by day this week, the team has fed the flame that we must have within tomorrow. It must be a final for us. We’re only focused on tomorrow and the team that awaits us. Everyone is available apart from Inglese, who took a knock this morning, as well as those who are suspended. Kucka trained this morning, while Siligardi completed his own personalised regime both yesterday and today. We must think as a team, regardless of who plays up front. We must all play a part in looking to reach our objective. Gagliolo? He worked all week with the group, we could change things tactically but I’ll decide tomorrow. How we interpret the game will be crucial. As Lucarelli said yesterday, Fiorentina will be facing an entire city. In terms of commitment, the lads deserve it. We’re just missing that final step
“Our only thoughts are on tomorrow’s game. The aim is to conclude the journey that we started years ago. By remaining strong and united, we can’t waste any energy thinking about what the other teams are doing. Fiorentina are a quality side, we must do well all across the pitch. Muriel and Chiesa can cause problems when in space. Inglese? He’ll be checked today. He suffered a knock to the calf that we were working on, clearly, he hadn’t fully recovered.
“We’ve prepared for this match day by day. The performance is down to us, not the result, therefore, everyone must be looking to get the best out of themselves. Fiorentina haven’t won for some time, but we must show more determination than them tomorrow. We know the importance of tomorrow’s game and we must obtain just one result, dealing with the Viola’s quality.
“If we look at our objective at the start of the season, it’s true that we could’ve done better in certain games. However, I can’t criticise the lads at all in terms of their commitment or attachment to these colours. Obviously, we would’ve liked to have concluded this sooner, but this must not take anything away from what we must do tomorrow. We must not think about what could’ve happened, but rather what must happen and how we’ll reach our goal.
“Everyone must be looking to give their all tomorrow. We have a crucial opportunity to perform out in front of our fans. We must be looking to conclude our cycle in the best possible fashion. The people of Parma helped us start this journey and we must now all look to preserve our top-tier status. We have the chance tomorrow to consolidate our work from the past few years.”
