NEW LOOK SIDE
Currently preparing for their third consecutive season in Serie B, Venezia have used the summer transfer window to bolster their ranks, acquiring players including goalkeeper Alberto Pomini, right winger Mattia Aramu and central midfielder Franco Zuculini. Another new recruit, Antonio Junior Vacca, is a former Crociati who spent last season on loan at Casertana.
The club have also appointed a new head coach in Alessio Dionisi (born 1980), who caught the eye of many last season after leading Imolese to a third-place finish in Serie C and subsequently reaching the promotion playoff semi-finals.
COPPA ITALIA RUN
Venezia entered the Coppa Italia at the second-round stage and were drawn against a Catania side which had knocked Fanfulla out in the first round. Venezia triumphed 2-1 in their match against the Sicilian side on August 11, with both goals coming from new signings in the form of Zuculini and Aramu. Venezia lined up in a 4-3-1-2 formation, with a starting eleven consisting of Lezzerini, Fiordaliso, Modolo, Cremonesi, Felicioli, Maleh, Vacca, Zuculini, Aramu, Bocalon and Capello.
