Florence, 26 December 2018 – Simone Iacoponi, who today captained the Crociati in Florence, had this to say after Parma’s seventh win of the season:
“It was a great feeling to get a result during a tough away game. It was a really difficult game, yet it was crucial for our league position. It was a great victory because we’ve now increased the gap on our competitors. It was a team victory. Inglese did well to finish one of the few chances that we had.
“We did well to give away very little and then made the most of our chances and protected our lead well. Two years ago, I would never have imagined that we would come here to Florence and get a result like this in Serie A. It was an honour for me to be Parma’s captain today.
“We knew that Fiorentina had players who were technically gifted yet also physically impressive. First of all, we tried to stop them from having chances and keep them pinned back, also preventing their long balls. We only let them have a few shots from outside the area. 25 points so far? It’s something that I would’ve jumped at at the start of the season. We didn’t think we could manage it all. Now, we must keep working toward our objective, that is still to avoid relegation. For our next game against Roma, one that we have a few injuries for and some other issues, we’ll prepare the same as usual and ensure that we’re ready mentally to get a positive result.”
