SIMONE IACOPONI FOLLOWING PARMA VS. SPAL: “WE SHOULD HAVE REACTED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THEIR OPENING GOAL, NOW WE’LL FOCUS ON OUR MATCH AGAINST JUVENTUS”

Parma, 27 January 2019 – Defender Simone Iacoponi spoke in the mixed zone following today’s 3-2 defeat at home to Spal. This is what he had to say:

We are full of regret because we were on the right track and were in the position we wanted to be in – we were 2-0 ahead. We need to be better when we concede and not allow our performance levels to drop. We need to react immediately. This was the biggest mistake we made today, and it’s a shame because we were made to pay heavily for it. We need to focus on our next game and our aim for the season, which is to avoid relegation. We have to concentrate on getting the points we need to achieve this objective. We were playing the right way and were stopping them from finding possible solutions. We were excellent up until Spal scored. We should have continued to play like we had been playing up until they reduced the arrears. We collapsed, and this shouldn’t have been the case. Matches last for 95 minutes. We will not make this mistake again. When the scoreline was 2-2, we had a great chance to retake the lead, but Viviano produced a great save. Now we have to continue to work as we have done so far because we have potential. The matches against Juventus and Inter will be difficult games. We’ll look to compete with them, as we did during the first half of the season, and hopefully we’ll get some points on the board.”
