Collecchio, 24 October 2020 – Fabio Liverani gave his thoughts on tomorrow’s game against Spezia in a press conference this morning.

How’s the team from a mental and physical point of view?
“I think that the team has worked well. They were annoyed about the result against Udinese, but they realise that they’re working and developing. I like to focus on that. The rest is history and is just a part of this season. I don’t think it’s useful to look back or think about other situations. I’m convinced that the team will play really well on Sunday.”

Is there a desire to get back on track, both from individuals and as a collective?
“I think so. As of today, the only evident thing is that the group is working and trying to improve. What will count tomorrow is the desire and hunger – that I’ve seen this week – to go and get this win.”

What sort of team are Spezia? How have they prepared for the game?
“Spezia made a comeback against Fiorentina on Sunday, the match finishing with a 2-2 draw. T are an athletic and tenacious team, who play consistently. They have good ideas and want to play attacking football. They are a side to be respected but at the same time I think that we are capable of bringing home a win.”

In attack, Cornelius returns to the side. He represents a fresh option missing from recent games. However, Laurini is out, which will be a big loss.
“In emergencies one must also be able to make positive discoveries. Cornelius is certainly one more alternative, but you will need to find something in the defensive department. But that’s why I like to be positive: in emergencies, everyone who is there does something extra because they want to get going again. They want to perform and earn themselves a useful result.”

Tomorrow’s game will be the first of three matches over a seven-day period. Could this have an impact on the choices you make or will you be taking it one game at a time?
“There have already been many constraints this season, and we’re not in a position to look too far forward. I think it’s right for us to take it game by game and see what players are available. I’ll send out a side that can give me guarantees from the very start.”
