Parma, 5 January 2021 – Throughout Crociati history in games played in Bergamo against Atalanta, our first victory dates back to 1 December 1991.

One goal from Alessandro Melli in the 10th minute (0-1) was enough to clinch victory that day.

This is the memory that we revisit on the eve of Atalanta vs. Parma, scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday 6 January at the Gewiss Stadium as part of matchday 16 in Serie A Tim 2020/21 (Kick-off 15:00 CET).

Our striker, who returned to the scoresheet after a long goal drought (he had not hit the mark since the away match in Foggia in late September) and a week in which he had suffered from a nagging toothache, signed it off with a nice header.

Sandrino, left unmarked behind the Atalanta defence, headed the ball past goalkeeper Fabrizio Ferron after a cross from teammate Tomas Brolin.

The Swede, put through by Marco Osio, the Sindaco, crossed it into the box on his left.

Coach Nevio Scala’s side, despite not doubling their lead, showed their worth by playing a fast and incisive game, especially in the first half, resulting in several chances that were not finished off.

Atalanta, who had come into the game having won three on the bounce, tried their best to equalise.

The Argentine Claudio Paul Caniggia was not having a good day, however, and Claudio Taffarel decisively parried away the attempts of his compatriot Carlos Alberto Bianchezi, and those of Carlo Perrone and Lamberto Piovanelli, who Atalanta coach Bruno Giorgi sent on in place of midfielder Giuseppe Minaudo in order to have more chances in attack.

A bad foul in the 88th minute by Bianchezi on captain Lorenzo Minotti was deemed to be worthy of a red card by referee Giuseppe Rosica, leaving the home side with a numerical disadvantage and making it too hard for them to recover.

It was the 1991/92 season of Serie A.

By the end of that season, Parma would finish in seventh place with 38 points, and would win their first trophy, the Coppa Italia, while Atalanta finished in eleventh, with 34 points.
