Parma, 9 January 2020 – Parma Calcio Sporting Director Marcello Carli gave his thoughts during Roberto D’Aversa’s presentation press conference today. This is what he had to say:

“Out of respect and the responsibility I shoulder, I’d like to start by talking about Liverani. I think that the person who deserved to pay the price the most was myself: the results we’ve been picking up aren’t just down to Liverani. But I know that we need to fight, and there’s no better person than D’Aversa to help Parma at the current time. I’m fully convinced that he’s the right choice. There’s a need to get over the disappointment quickly and use all our energy to help the Coach and get Parma out of this situation. I believe that he’s the right person and perhaps the only one that can give us a hand. Best of luck to him, and I hope he’ll be with us for a long time.

“I know one thing: I have never had any issues with D’Aversa, and I say that with the utmost clarity. He’s an extra asset for is. I made a choice and I would do the same if I went back in time, the situation was totally different because Krause wasn’t there and it was a particularly trying time. It would be wrong to judge that with the benefit of hindsight. We need to remember where we were with the old ownership, so I’d make the same choice. I also know that the only Coach for Parma right now is Roberto D’Aversa. When I called him, I told him that he should be in Parma the next morning. I’ve always had a good relationship with him, even if we did have words after the last-minute draw against Cagliari last season because we’re both very driven. But there’s always been a lot of mutual respect, I wouldn’t want the message to go out that I was against this decision and that there were problems between us. Given his past and intimate knowledge of the group, he’s the only person who can help us right now.”
