Parma, 13 August 2021Eight years ago, on a mid-August weekend, Parma Calcio took on Lecce at our Ennio Tardini stadium for the first match in the Coppa Italia.

As will happen in a couple of days’ time, on Sunday 15 (Kick-Off: 18:00 CEST), in a straight knockout match in the first round of the tournament.

Even then the formula was identical to today. The Crociati team, on the evening of Saturday 17 August 2013, easily imposed themselves (4-0) on the visitors, advancing to the next round of the competition.

We only suffered in the opening moments, when a goal from Fabrizio Miccoli was ruled out for offside, and the rest of the first half when the Giallorossi pushed hard on the gas, even after our opening goal.

It was scored by Amauri in the 21st minute, with a great piece of technique in front of goal. The Italian-Brazilian forward found the net after receiving the ball from Jaime Valdes. He controlled the ball on his chest and volleyed it into the net with the outside of his right foot (1-0).

In the 53rd minute, Antonio Cassano, one of the protagonists of the evening, converted a penalty kick that he had won himself, awarded by referee Mauro Bergonzi of Genoa. Fantantonio slotted home the penalty by striking the ball cleanly down the middle and under the crossbar (2-0).

Gianni Munari’s first goal in an official match for Parma temporarily set the scoreline at 3-0 in the 79th minute.

The midfielder, who had only arrived in the ranks of Roberto Donadoni’s team twelve days prior, came on for Marco Parolo and nine minutes later, with his right foot, scored a winning tap-in. Gianni did not celebrate out of respect for his former team, with whom he had played for five seasons.

Raffaele Palladino, who had come on in place of Cassano, rounded out the scoring, making it 4-0 in the 84th minute, following a dangerous cross from the right by Jonathan Biabiany.

After going on to eliminate Varese in the next round of the 2013/14 Coppa Italia, again at the Tardini and again with four goals (4-1), Parma Calcio were knocked out of the competition in the round of 16 by Lazio.
