Parma, 6 September 2021 – Before today’s training session, Belgian defender Elias Cobbaut spoke to the press at Collecchio.

“I didn’t expect to be playing so soon. I had been here for a couple of days after the official announcement of the transfer. I was obviously really happy to have played, especially because we won without conceding a goal. I already knew about Serie A because it’s one of the best leagues in the world and is famed for its defenders – you can learn a lot from them.”

“I prefer to play as a centre-back; I like to have the ball at my feet and, in that position, you get the ball more than you do as a full-back. I’ve been able to learn a lot from Vincent Kompany; we played together during his first season at Anderlecht and then he became head coach. He was one of the very best Premier League defenders of all time and I learned a lot from him in terms of what it means to be a centre-back.”

“Nobody told me about a chance to go to Inter – it isn’t true. How could I say no to Parma? This is a historic Club with a brilliant history. I know a lot about the Club due to the amazing players that have played here. I’ll give 100% here. Buffon? I wasn’t even born when he started winning trophies. Gigi is a legend, not just in Italian football but for the global game too. I’m happy to be able to play with him; he’s 42 years old but he stills trains with a lot of intensity as if he were still 25. I have a lot of respect for him. I played my first game here with him; it’s a different style of football here and, during the game, he told me to keep calm and just enjoy it.”
