Como, 28 November 2021 – At the end of the 1-1 draw at the Sinigaglia stadium between Como and Parma, here is what Coach Iachini had to say in the press room.
“You can’t change the world in three days, but it was interesting to see the spirit of the team, giving it their all until the very end. We started with a three-man midfield behind the strikers because we wanted to make an immediate impact. In the first half-hour, we created three clear-cut chances, and their goalkeeper did well. Unfortunately, we gave away the penalty at the other end, it was something we could have avoided. In the second half, we were recovering well and we had a couple of chances, but then a deflection, with the defence lined up and our defender slipping, they scored. The spirit of the team was always positive, we tried to win until the end and it’s a pity about that final chance, we had to be more clinical. We are building though, there is much to improve but that was inevitable after a few days. We tried to get the ball forward, sometimes this worked against us, but now is the time to try it, to change our philosophy and get forward before our opponents can reposition. Today the team showed spirit throughout the game. We must try to be more clinical when it comes to scoring”.
“It’s the way I work, I involve all the players. Making everyone feel important is fundamental in a difficult and long championship like Serie B. We are also working on two things in particular, on our intensity and on the speed of our build-up: we did well in the first half-hour then we slipped a bit with the pace of the closing down, of our press, but we have to get used to these new tactics”.
“It will be a close league, many teams have a chance to go up. There are also dark horses, just like in every league. We have to get some consistency in the team, in training and in the mentality that we need for this campaign. Today I saw a good response after going behind. All the teams are waiting for us to play the game of their year. From this point of view, the team showed belief, we are laying down the foundations”.
“Gattuso does his homework, the team were well organised, they have months of work behind them, you can see they have a good group that won promotion last year. Serie B is a bunched up league in terms of the table, it is very close.”
