Friday 3 December 2021 – This morning, Parma Calcio visited the Pietro Barilla Children’s Hospital in Parma with a delegation consisting of the Managing Director Jaap Kalma, as well as the players Valentin Mihaila, Wojo Coulibaly, Giorgia Cocconi and Giorgia Tommasini. They were welcomed on behalf of the hospital by Gian Luigi de’ Angelis, Director of the Maternal-Children’s Ward, and Massimo Fabi, General Manager of Parma University Hospital.

The meeting was organised to present the special-edition jersey, dedicated to the “Pietro Barilla” Children’s Hospital, that Parma Calcio will wear on 12 December against Perugia, and that will be auctioned to raise funds for the hospital which Parma has been working with for many years. The same jersey will also be worn by the women’s first team in their match against Nubilaria Calcio on 19 December.

Here’s what representatives from both parties had to say at the event:

Jaap Kalma, Managing Director of Parma Calcio 1913: “We have a tradition, as Parma Calcio, and every year for our birthday we make a special shirt, and we donate the proceeds to a good cause in the region. This year, we’ve chosen a cause we’ve been working with for many years, which is the Children’s Hospital, and we’ve taken it a step further, because the shirt is inspired by the same hospital. The design of the building is reflected in the jersey’s sleeves. It also has another reference, because it recalls the jersey of 30 years ago, when Parma Calcio won its first trophy: in 1991-92, the Coppa Italia, wearing the white jersey with the colours on the sleeves. Our partner Erreà and the club’s Marketing department did a great job with the design, I think they created a beautiful jersey that honours the cause it supports.

Gian Luigi de’ Angelis, Director of the Maternal-Children’s Department: “It’s a beautiful jersey, we are all honoured that the colours of Parma Children’s Hospital are on these glorious jerseys, and I’m sure that they will give a lot of extra determination to our players, given the longstanding union that we have with the club.

Massimo Fabi, General Manager of Parma University Hospital: “Many thanks to Parma Calcio for once again working to help the children of our Pietro Barilla Children’s Hospital, and in such a tangible way which makes us all feel very happy and supported.  Football certainly has an educational element and they’ve put it on display here with this wonderful example. Now, they’ve presented us the new jerseys. They’re very beautiful and remind us of Parma’s glory years, which I am convinced will come back soon.
