Parma, 6 January 2022 – Parma Calcio 1913 mourns Ubaldo Balbi, who passed away at the age of eighty-three, and sends its deepest condolences to his family.

Balbi was a Crociati player back in the Sixties, who made 52 appearances in our jersey (50 in Serie B and 2 in the Coppa Italia).

Romagnolo, originally from Lugo di Romagna, was an old-school central defender who almost always wore the number five on his back.

He was nicknamed “armadio” (tank) by the Parma fans because of his physical prowess and the opposition he put up against opposing forwards.

Ubaldo made his debut for Parma on 9 September 1962 at the Tardini, in the Coppa Italia match against Josè Altafini’s AC Milan, scoring the goal in the Rossoneri’s 0-1 victory over Cesare Maldini, Giovanni Trapattoni and Giovanni Lodetti.

He came from Biellese (Serie C).

With Parma, in the 1962/1963 and 1963/1964 seasons, he exploded onto the scene and made himself known. So much so that he deserved to be called up for the National side’s B team and caught the attention of Nereo Rocco’s Padova, back then in Serie A.

Unfortunately, a serious injury ended his professional football career with our club.

La sua ultima gara in maglia Crociata fu Parma-Catanzaro (1-0) in Serie B del 12 aprile 1964.

His last match in the Crociati shirt was Parma 1-0 Catanzaro in Serie B on 12 April 1964.
