Parma, 11 February 2022 – Before the final training session ahead of Parma’s match against Pordenone, head coach Beppe Iachini gave his customary pre-match press conference at Collecchio.

“We’re working hard week by week on every aspect, upon which we have to improve. As I’ve said, we’re getting better off the ball and are conceding fewer chances but we’re still working on how we shift the ball around, our technique and getting players into the opposition box. We had some issues up front after Alessandria: we’ve brought in a couple of wingers in Rispoli and Costa but they need to get up to full fitness. Coulibaly is back after two months out with a muscle problem and Oosterwolde still needs to settle in. We were on a high after the Alessandria game but then had a 35-day break. We need to rediscover that sort of form. We’ve had chances to get results but we just lacked a little bit of luck. We need to pick up a few points now if we want to be able to play with less nerves.”

“Cassata suffered a microfracture to his toe in his first game; Inglese is recovering but will be unavailable tomorrow. Benedyczak sustained a knock against Alessandria and came off against Crotone so he has missed out on a bit of work. Simy and Pandev are improving but they still need a bit of time; Simy played 90 minutes on Saturday but it was an enforced situation. They’ve only been here for a few days and need to get up to match fitness. We’re happy to have them here as they can really help this team.”

“We’ll play our game according to the characteristics of the players that we have. When there’s a dip in morale, it’s clear that the situation can’t be immediately resolved but we’ll just take it one game at a time. The boys need to learn the various tactical schemes that we want to run. With the right personality, confidence and courage. And the enthusiasm to win the ball back and get on the front foot. We need to go a get a result because that is the best medicine to get the boys back firing.”

“I’ve been in this position before; we need to come through it. We need to be more compact and more courageous. We have to press but not let our heads drop if we misplace a pass. We do need to move the ball around with more accuracy because this leads to more chances created. We revere our fans; they gave us great support in Benevento, as they have always done. This team pushes and fights for 90 minutes; we just need to convert the chances into goals.”

“Pordenone are a dangerous team. They will look to play the game of their lives against us and will look to take the game to us. We need to outfight them and play with personality and intensity. Pordenone brought in reinforcements in January so it will be a tough game. Anybody can beat anybody in this league.”

“Valenti has been out a long while so he still needs time. Osorio is on his way back. I will make assessments game by game because we have a lot of good defenders. The most important game is the one tomorrow. We have some defenders at risk of suspension and we don’t want to go to Cremona with more than one absentee in the same role, so we will have a good think about who plays tomorrow.”
