Parma, 28 February 2022 – Gianluigi Buffon has extended his Parma Calcio 1913 contract until 2024. The announcement was made by Kyle Krause during a press conference at the Stadio Ennio Tardini. This is what the President had to say:

“Buffon has renewed his contract until 2024, I’m very happy. Gigi is a great player, one of the top three Italian goalkeepers. We’re delighted with the renewal. In addition to his leadership skills, he has great qualities on a human level. For Parma, it’s an honour that he’s decided to continue with us. Gigi has clearly shown his passion for and dedication to Parma and the city; you can see it every time you encounter him. We’re overjoyed by this news and are really happy that we can count on the commitment he displays to Parma Calcio every single day.

“Gigi was previously under contract until 2023. His decision to renew is a piece of good news for the future and provides confirmation that he wants to continue to play at a high level. It makes me particularly happy to hear him talk about the future at the age of 44, it really is fantastic. His teammates see him train every day and know how enthusiastic he is.

“Today is all about Gigi. There have been days when I’ve come away from the stadium disappointed, but there’s a big difference between disappointment and regret. It’s not true that I’ve had regrests about the Parma Calcio project.

“Last season was difficult, despite how many good players we had in the squad. We’re in a business where everyone knows what we’re doing, and the great leadership spirit that Gigi has displayed is the right one: he doesn’t look back; instead, he aims to bring out the best in everyone with the future in mind. That’s why I love his approach.

“Our match in the week is an important moment, but we also need to think about the future. To do so, we need to focus on what is needed to enjoy success over the long term. In my opinion, the reconstruction of the stadium is essential. With the relationship we have with the relevant authorities, I’m feeling quite positive; it’s about drawing up a timetable. We need to honour Gigi’s contract because we want him to play in the new stadium.”
