Vicenza, 15 March 2022 – Coach Beppe Iachini spoke to the media in the press room of the Menti stadium in his post-match interview. The Crociati ran out 1-0 winners away to Vicenza.

“Tonight the group stepped onto the pitch and performed excellently all over the park. We have clearly grown a lot. In these past 8-9 games we performed well enough to win rather than draw the games that we have. We have grown significantly both in the defensive phase but also up front where today we admittedly could’ve done better. However, in addition to the absentees today, 3 were ruled due to illness. The boys have always worked hard, and we deserve more points than we currently find ourselves with. We took shots, without much reward and made too many mistakes in previous games, which was our only major flaw. With how well we played and what we showed, we could have been ahead, despite our countless injury concerns. The group has always worked hard and today this paid off as we always try to win with the right spirit and attitude. We wanted to make amends for the missed opportunity against Cittadella. The important thing is that the team plays like they did today. We had many young players on the pitch tonight, but their age is irrelevant: the whole group has shown that they are on the right track and I believe in it as we look to continue to move forward”.

Man deserved the captain’s armband this week, following his exponential improvement; he is a strong believer in working hard away from our group sessions, both on his defensive and offensive attributes. He has shown real personality, self-belief and a fantastic commitment to the shirt; I believe I am right to reward him for these things. Delprato has also progressed well, similarly with Balogh and Camara was returning from a long injury; Danilo was also solid at the back. The spirit has been right for the last 8-9 games now, and the numbers are starting show it. We have one of the best defences in the league and also shoot more than most when we get the ball further up the pitch”.

“The sending off? I was giving instructions to one of my players and left the technical area. The fourth official noticed this and this was why the referee dismissed me”.

“I always enjoy being back here as this where I started my coaching career. Then of course, when you step onto the pitch you are focused on doing your best. I wish Vicenza all the best in the remainder of the season. Vicenza have some good qualities but came up against a focused, attentive, compact Parma team; we work well as a team both on and off the ball, but Vicenza kept fighting to the end. They have enough quality to stay up I’m sure, with good players in each position”.

“Is that 600 matches in the dugout? I started off very young, so I’m still hopeful of getting to 1000. The spirit is certainly there and as long as there is the spirit I hope to rack up more games”.
