Parma, 9 April 2022 – Before yesterday’s match between Italy and Lithuania at the Stadio Tardini, President Kyle Krause spoke about the work Parma Calcio are doing to develop their Women’s Sector. This is what he had to say:

I think it’s very important to support women’s teams in the same way as men’s sides, and my aim is to advocate for equality in terms of resources and spending. There are several reasons why I’m arguing for this. As you know, I come from the United States and, therefore, it’s something I view from a slightly different perspective. Obviously, I’m not saying that the American perspective is better, but it can certainly provide a few insights on this matter.

“Very often, reflections are made on why women should have equal opportunities, including in football. But my question is another one: why shouldn’t they? Any investment made in the Women’s Sector should be considered as a long-term investment so that women’s football in Italy can develop over the long run. When we talk about investments in football, we need to ask ourselves how to make the game more inclusive for girls and boys and how to provide girls with more opportunities to go down this path. Our plan at Parma Calcio 1913 is to invest, including in the Women’s Sector. The aim is to help our women’s side reach Serie A as soon as possible.

“As is the case for all things worth striving for, this will take time and it’ll mean putting in a lot of effort. Hard work will be needed to get there. I think a real vision needs to be created that attracts young female footballers and gives them an opportunity early on. In my opinion, we wait too long to give this opportunity to boys and girls. We need to create opportunities, provide exposure to football and try to encourage a change in mentality. And for those who don’t really believe in women’s football, they should be invited to see what the Italian and Lithuanian girls are capable of out on the pitch. For me, it’s an honour to be able to host a match between these two women’s sides at the Tardini. I’d like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak to you on behalf of myself, my family and the whole of Parma Calcio 1913, and I’d also like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to continue to support the development of the Women’s Sector.”
