Parma, April 16, 2022 – Two days before the home match against Ascoli (Monday 18 April, at 18:00 CEST at the stadio Ennio Tardini), coach Beppe Iachini spoke to the media via videoconference from the Collecchio Technical Centre.

“Those absent? We are checking to see if we can get back Inglese in the next few hours, otherwise everything remains unchanged on the injury front. Vazquez has overcome his fever, which we discovered on the eve of Brescia, the same happened to us prior to Vicenza with 4-5 cases of illness. Vazquez, Benedyczak and Sohm were the worst off, while for Tutino and Rispoli it wasn’t nearly as bad: I must of course thank them because they played regardless, even though they weren’t very well. A situation that has got the better of us, one way or another, in months gone by; perhaps we might get Inglese back. We take on this match, aiming to get back on track. Against Brescia we had more opportunities to take the lead than our opposition and we missed out on the opportunity to change the tide of the game in our favour. We’ll continue to try to pick up as many points as possible”.

“Ascoli managed to keep themselves afloat last year and they have been working with the same coach for two years now and this season, they’ve shown great enthusiasm. They are in the playoffs, so we are aware that a difficult match awaits us; we will have to show attention to detail, because we’re playing a very good team“.

“We aren’t looking too far into the future but assessing the players from game to game. We’ve become a team, that steps onto the pitch to compete on an equal footing with the others, despite our numerous absentees. We had to do this to help the lads grow with the work we’ve been doing and accumulate as many points as possible; we’ve also been unlucky and so are lacking points. We will look forward. It’s been a strange year; we have improved both individually and as a team, however, the teams above us have also done well. We come off the back of a good run, with convincing performances; in some races however, we had to be better at finishing off the chances we created. In some stages we lacked the experience, but we continue to work, honouring every match and trying to take as many points as possible”.

I’m focused on the league season. I’m always thinking about how to best prepare the team. Our path considering everything that has happened has been excellent; it is never easy to take over after a relegation and a slow start to the new season, just look at Crotone. Anyone who knows this league knows how difficult the first year is after falling down a level. It is too early to talk about the future, because we still have games to play”.

“There was a bit of regret, because the team wanted to do well and win against Brescia. We played the game we had to play, considering it was the third game that week and given the problems on the eve of the match, it wasn’t easy. We had more shots on target than our opponents, away to a higher-ranked team. Parma’s mentality and attitude proved that they were out to win the game, but were unsuccessful; this is just part of the game. If we think back to the match in Alexandria, where our frontline consisted of Benedyczak, Inglese and Vazquez, on Sunday we didn’t even have one of these players on the bench. Brescia had more feathers to their cap, whereas we have lacked a few to be able to turn matches in our favour. We must continue with this work, because we can see the right attitudes on the pitch”.

“Circati, Camara and Sits will be absent with the Primavera. Just as we have used many of the Primavera lads to solve our own problems, it seems only right to replenish the Youth Sector; we have been working together since I joined the club. It is part of the club’s project to be able to work with young people. We need time to help them grow“.

“We must always look to find a bounce-back. I was asked the same thing two months ago and I said that the team wouldn’t give up, giving their best to climb the league table as musch as possible. If you travel 100 metres but start 40 behind, it is likely that whoever is in front will beat you in the race unless the unimaginable happens. Miracles are not just given, you have to work hard and do your best in every game by striving as high as you can in the standings; this has been our goal all the way “.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to wish a Happy Easter to all our fans, hoping that our future is better and we will continue to improve”.
