Parma, 27 October 2022 – A Parma vs. Como league match of epic proportions in today’s Crociati History.
It was played at the Stadio Ennio Tardini on Saturday 30 December 1978.
The Lariani arrived on matchday thirteen of Group A in Serie C1 as undisputed leaders, with only one defeat in their league campaign.
Parma, who were still coached by Graziano Landoni, later to be replaced by Cesare Maldini, battered them in front of 12,000 fans, who packed the stands next to the Piazzale Risorgimento.
It was a clear, straightforward, no-nonsense win.
We took the lead as early as the 9th minute.
A young Carlo Ancelotti crossed, from the right, to teammate Pier Paolo Scarrone, whose hard and accurate shot from the edge of the box flashed towards the goal.
The visiting goalkeeper, the late William Vecchi, stretched out and saved it, but unable to hold onto the ball, Italo Toscani capitalised.
The Crociati winger touched it just enough to see it in, hitting the opposite goal post (1-0).
Half an hour later, in the 36th minute, the lead doubled.
Parma took a free-kick in midfield. Ancelotti, who starred on the day, with his elegance in front of the opponents’ goal, created an opening for himself and unleashed a shot from twenty yards that surprised Vecchi; he was wrong-footed after a deflection off defender Franco Campidonico (2-0).
In the second half, in the 77th minute, Parma wrapped up the win.
A corner from Scarrone came in, Toscani won the header, and Campidonico’s efforts rebounded to the feet of Bruno Caneo, who beat Vecchi with a low, angled shot.
12,000 fans at the Tardini erupted with joy.

Como finished with ten men after the dismissal of Pietro Vierchowod, after two yellows, who was only able to stop Carlo Ancelotti by fouling him.
At the end of the season, the Lariani side, led in the dugout by Giuseppe ‘Pippo’ Marchioro, finished top of the table, six points ahead of Parma and Triestina.
The Crociati and Alabardati faced off in the play-off in Vicenza to decide the second side to be promoted to the second tier.
