Parma, 24 January 2023 – This year, Parma Calcio will celebrate the ‘Giorno della Memoria‘ (Holocaust Memorial Day) with a special initiative.

As always, we will remember the story of Renzo Cavallina, goalkeeper for Parma in the 1940s, who was an Italian Military Intern, and Prisoner of War in the German prison camp Stalag IIID in Berlin.

In previous years, a moment of remembrance and reflection has taken place at the entrance to the Stadio Ennio Tardini, in Piazzale Risorgimento, where a ‘stolperstein’, dedicated to Cavallina, was installed in 2021 by the Historical Institute of the Resistance and Contemporary Age.

This year, he will be remembered in greater depth. The ceremony will take place tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday 25 January, at the  Stadio Ennio Tardini, in the press room and the club’s museum. At 16:00 CET, in the press room, the book ‘La scelta di Cavallina‘ (the choice of Cavallina) will be presented. The author, Lamberto Gherpelli, will speak.

Luca Martines, Managing Director Corporate of Parma Calcio, will host.

Marco Bosi, Councillor for Sport of the Municipality of Parma, will represent the community.

Our captain, Gianluigi Buffon, and Sky Sport journalist, Matteo Marani, who is also president of the FIGC Football Museum Foundation, will add to the event with their contributions and experiences.

The presentation will be coordinated by Giuseppe Milano, journalist of Gazzetta di Parma and Tv Parma.

At the same time, in the ‘Ernesto Ceresini’ Parma Museum, a small area will be launched that pays homage to Renzo Cavallina, nicknamed the Crociato ‘gatto magico’ (magic cat), the man who made a courageous and exemplary human choice.
