Here is what Coach Domenico Panico said on the eve of Parma vs Como, 6th Matchday of the 1st Round of the Women’s Serie A Championship, scheduled at the stadio ‘Ennio Tardini’ in Parma, tomorrow, Sunday 29 January 2023 at 14:30 CET.

Coach Domenico Panico, on the eve of the match against Como, how are Parma doing?

“Well, we had a good week, we have prepared for it well, we know it’s an important match: we’ll try to bring home the three points”.

If Parma play as they did against Roma, it will be a problem for the guests…

“We come from three well-fought matches, from the beginning of the year, both the one in the Coppa Italia, and the one with AC Milan, and the one last week with Roma: then every match has its differences and complications. Obviously the opponent will be different. Como have a strong identity, they’re a well-positioned team, who come from an excellent result at home against Inter. It will be a difficult match, as they all are, but the team is ready and will play a great game’.

Parma held their own against the leaders, but were penalised by a few mistakes that denied them points…

“I don’t want to comment on what happened last Sunday: the club has already been clear, expressing itself in a communiqué, and we only have to evaluate the field. We played a great game, we didn’t deserve to lose, but that’s normal in football. This week we approached it, as usual, with great calm and dedication to work. We prepared for it well: tomorrow we’ll try to have an important game, the team needs it, as does the whole environment, regardless of the result, which is important all the same, because it helps us to grow in consideration, to try to continue doing what we’re doing”.

Did the performance against Roma raise the team’s confidence in their ability?

“We know we have a strong and well-built team: there have been complications along the way. We know there were problems that we have partly solved. We have integrated new players, with some injured players who are now well, the number is considerable, indeed, we have to make choices about who to bring into the stands, and this is already a positive aspect. For me athletically, physically, mentally they are ready: then tomorrow the field will have the say’.

Speaking of new signings: US forward Mia Elizabeth Corbin has been added…

“Mia Elizabeth Corbin is a striker who can be both a first and second forward: she is very strong physically, she has good technical quality, in fact excellent, she can hit the ball with both her right and left foot, she knows how to attack the space, she knows how to come forward: she is a strong player who will complete our offensive department”.

Como is the team that has drawn the most in this championship: they could be happy with two results out of three, while Parma cannot get less than three points…

“Como will come to play their game, I don’t think to bring home a point and that’s what they’re organised for. Como will come to play their game, here at the Tardini, to try to win it: they have always approached matches in this way, attacking, defending: it’s a team that, as I repeat, has a strong identity, well set up in the middle of the field; it’s a very structured team, that has scored many goals on dead balls, corners or free kicks, both central and external; when it comes to jump it hurts, and when it closes and then restarts it’s a very fast team to attack spaces. So it will be a difficult game, we know that, and we will have to play it well, interpreting it well, at all times; then at the end whoever will have been better will bring home the three points.

After the last game at the Noce we return to the Stadio Ennio Tardini…

“We had a good time at the Noce, but we return to our wonderful pitch: we return there with great desire, hoping to play a great game and entertain the crowd…”
