COACH FABIO PECCHIA: “HIGH LEVELS FOR THE OPENER, WORK STILL TO BE DONE”

Parma, 17 August 2024 - Comments from Parma coach, Fabio Pecchia, following Parma’s draw against Fiorentina on Matchday 1 of the 2024/25 Serie A Enilive.

“Lots of regrets today, the opponent was strong and we put in a good performance, producing lots of chances. There are two facts from this game: the first is that in such a moment, the team remained faithful to its values, showed great personality, desire to play and compete, and created lots of chances. The other, despite the performance, we leave with great regret. This was Parma on the opening day, we still have a lot of work to do and improve. I’m happy, but at the same time, there was a feeling of regret amongst the boys at the end of the match. I think this is a good sign. Bonny? He has now experienced Serie A and B. He has been with us for a long time yet he is one of the youngest, like our team. Coming from the Coppa Italia game, we had to manage him. But I’m happy he hasn’t had any further problems. The debutants, Cancellieri and Almqvist? They arrived a few hours ago and to throw them into the mix at such a complicated point, in which the team was struggling, I’m happy with their approach and how they integrated into the team. But we will need time. An opening match at a high level, the people appreciated it and our fans were entertained. We pushed on the values of our group, the young, light-hearted enthusiasm. Knowing we will encounter more difficulties in the future, we will find ourselves playing completely different to today. Cyprien? He is a quality footballer, it would have been a great reward for the boy’s professionalism and seriousness, I saw the ball go into the back of the net.”
