Parma, 23 November 2024 - Head Coach Fabio Pecchia shared his thoughts at the end of the game against Atalanta, on Matchday 13 in Serie A Enilive 2024/25.
'I think we suffered today, especially after conceding five minutes in, against a technically and physically strong Atalanta side. We only had chances the reopen things in the last five minutes. But then, in the second half, our approach was great and we played very well. I have to compliment the boys because it wasn't easy to react, it wasn't easy to face Atalanta in a mental sense. Great goal from Cancellieri, we had them there, and with the changes we kept pushing. There was the chance to make it 2-2 but also the chance of conceding a third. Atalanta can beat anyone, be it in Italy or in Europe. The attacking aspect? In general, I believe in our methods and in my boys, I am trying to highlight the characteristics of the players that I have available. Cancellieri? He has a lot of desire and ability, as well as determination and a good left foot. His goal was brilliant. He's been with us for a few months, I like to see him out wide on the right because he can express himself. His development will depend on the evolution, he has a lot of potential when it comes to the way we play. We're in a phase in our journey which is also like this: we need to remember that we are a very young side. In the first half, after the goal, we suffered from the strength and quality of Atalanta. In the second half, we had greater awareness of our potential and our means, we were able to do some good things and there was more determination. It was a lively match. We played and Atalanta were stronger, they showed their strength and we suffered when they pushed on. In the final part of the first half we woke up and created some chances, we played well in the second half, with greater awareness and calmness in the control of the ball. We put on a performance which showed our way of working and presence on the pitch, we didn't gift anyone, Atalanta simply showed their strength. Benedyczak? He needs to play, he's been out a while, 5-6 months. It's a lot for such a physical player. I'm happy because I wasn't sure if he could have such an impact on the game, obviously he is still a bit off but he will find this through playing. He's an important player for us, he has offensive qualities that differ from the others. Lightness without being superficial? I'd want to play like we did in the second half today, play without thinking about the side we're facing. There was this sort of approach in the second half, of wanting to play in that way in possession of the ball. More games are passing and the squad is growing in awareness and maturity'.
