COACH FABIO PECCHIA: “THE WHOLE SQUAD NEEDS TO BE READY”

Collecchio, 1 December 2023 - Head Coach Fabio Pecchia spoke during the press conference at the Mutti Training Center in Collecchio ahead of the away game against Spezia.

SPEZIA GAME AND 24-MAN SQUAD: EVERYONE'S READY

A similar game to Modena, they have young, talented players. I have to be more concerned with who we are, I want to see 24 players, because there will be 24 in the full squad, that are ready to fight and face the match with great desire, both physical and mental. Sohm out? We have 24 players, all of them ready, whoever will play tomorrow has to be ready for a good game in an atmosphere where we will need to see if we can hold our own. D'Angelo? I have 24 players who want to go out there and do it, we have to play football, but we also have to fight. We are all capable of it, we already did so and we need to be able to do so again. Everyone is ready and I will make my choices on how this week has gone, how many players have progressed, and what they have done to get there. Regardless of who has played up until now, the game is tomorrow and the choices will be made with this in mind. Though, everyone is doing well, whoever heads out onto the pitch tomorrow must be ready to play 90 minutes, or 60, but always putting in a high-level performance. Off the bench? I don't like to talk about the bench, but about the group. There are those who start and those who come on to finish the game. In managing the squad, everyone has to be ready, we need a strong group. It makes me happy though, because it demonstrates that the whole group is ready to play. We need everyone, no one left behind'.

6 GAMES IN 25 DAYS AND SQUAD CONDITION

The team is well apart from Benedyczak who has a fever. The rest of the group are doing great. There was little to work on compared to the last match, but we must take note of the performance, of the many things that were done well and we are prepared for the next match and what awaits us from here on out. In 25 days we will play 6 games. Just like the lads, I am focused on our journey, on what there is to do and the desire to always improve. We aren’t in this league alone, there will be ups and downs for each of the many teams. But mine and the team’s goal is to create a strong group and work on ourselves. The journey is down to us, our way of doing things, we have already made an impact compared to what we did at the end of last season. This is the road we are on and we have to lay it for ourselves. There is another opponent with different characteristics ahead of us, with a totally different atmosphere, each time it will be different. The focus must be on ourselves and our way of playing.

CHOICES AND ATTACKING IDEAS

“The first 15 minutes? We work to leave a mark on the game, if it doesn't come we continue to work hard for a goal. It came 3 minutes from the end against Modena, we need to be determined and go for the goal, go for goal and be determined. This goes for everyone, not just the forwards. The goal is the real thing that changes a game. Winning means scoring more than your opponent. Attack? Colak, Bonny and Charpentier can all start. I would like to highlight that Charpe is capable of coming on in a game and being ready, helping out the rest of the squad and understanding what needs to be done. He was also carefully managed, I am happy with his physical improvement and ability to handle the work. We have an extra player'.

LECCO AND MODENA

Lecco and Modena? I am inspired because we reacted well, even in our approach. The squad seemed calm to me in difficult moments, they showed personality, seriousness and calmness, whatever the final result, and this is the most important thing. We could have done better in dead-ball situations at home. This has won us games where we have been less aggressive, with less dribbling and fluidity. The second half in Modena came after a first half where we made them run, where they were closed down by our control in possession. This, in the second half, allowed us to play in the final third. We need to keep playing our football, wanting to have fun and maintaining the calmness required to play a fast and entertaining game'.
