Venice, 9 November 2024 - The remarks from striker Matteo Cancellieri at the end of the Venezia vs Parma match, on the 12th day of Serie A 2024/25.
'After so many good performances where we collected less points, but where we were always in the game, we needed a good win, we needed three points. The win was good for us. The awareness is the same as before, but then when you collect points it's normal that the atmosphere is different, there is more serenity, things are better. In any case we were united even before, we were aware of what we had to do even before and I think this is also part of the work we've done during the week, in these weeks, even after defeats, after draws, so I think the victory is well deserved. The coach changes a lot and often, so we are all ready to adapt to the roles we have to play. I think today was a bit of a tough game, but we stayed on the pitch, on the ball, we stayed in the game and in the end it paid off. There are matches that are of one kind, matches of another. Today was a tough match and we also needed to help the defensive department. We know that this is a competitive league, but we always go for the three points, that's normal. Of course, the opponents will try to do the same. So when we manage to pick up a point we have to hold on to it and we have to try to win every game, but sometimes we find opponents who are perhaps better placed on the pitch, sometimes they have a bit more luck or played better, but in any case we needed these three points, so I think of the present. We needed these three points after some good performances and we are happy about that. We have to be present all 90 minutes on the pitch because we know that until the 90th, 95th minute, the game is not over. Today we were present in all 95 minutes, so I think that apart from being a victory that we needed, it is also a deserved victory. For the 90 minutes I'm happy, but I'm much happier for the win and the mood the win brings. It's a victory we needed after several games in which we perhaps collected less than we could. The team has always been on the ball, even in training, always with their heads up. We know that the championship is competitive. We are a young but strong group, we are aware of our potential. Leoni? I think Giovanni played a great game. It's his first game with us. We always see him in training and we know the value he brings, despite being very young. Today he showed that he can do well even from the start, he can carve out space for himself and I'm very happy for him. For better or for worse we have to take responsibility. Everyone has to understand what they can do more for themselves and for their teammates. During the week, morale was never low. We were always on the ball, always alive, and I think that this too, the fact that we did not lower our heads and were not demoralised, brought brilliance.'
