COACH FABIO PECCHIA: ”EVERYONE, TEAM AND TARDINI, MUST EMBODY THE DESIRE TO WIN”

Collecchio, 16 February 2024 - Coach Fabio Pecchia's statements during the press conference before the match against Pisa, given in the press room at the Mutti Training Center in Collecchio.

SEEING AN EXTRAORDINARY STADIUM, UNION BETWEEN TEAM AND FANS

'Beyond all tactical numbers and who will play in midfield, but especially when there are teams eager to play, numbers only count to a certain extent. Over there is a team that wants to play football, and on this side, we are here to play our game. I believe it will be a good match with two teams eager to shine. I want everyone to breathe at Tardini, not just the team, not just the group, but the entire environment, to breathe together, the desire to have fun and the desire to win. Everyone must do it. The fans? I would like to see again the extraordinary atmosphere that was there with Venezia, a victory achieved at the last minute but from the very beginning there was a climate of unity, harmony, and solidarity between the team and the fans, a unity. I hope to see the same atmosphere again.'

THE MATCH AGAINST PISA

'Beyond continuity, I see a team, as seen in the first leg, built with an idea, changed a lot compared to last year, with a coach who has changed and has a clear philosophy of great ball possession and great play. And with fast players. In the first leg, we played a great game, which was broken. But we must consider how that type of game was played. Extend it for longer and not just for a fraction of the time. The most important match is on Saturday, worth three points, the focus is on Saturday's game. We will need to run a lot and have a certain balance on the field, be very organized and perform both phases. We will think about what comes after later. The match needs to be approached from a technical, tactical, and motivational point of view. I want a focused group, everyone, but absolutely everyone, with the same desire to step on the field and have fun. Remaining light and playing to win. If there is a suspension or anything else, we will think about it later.'

THE TEAM'S CONDITION

'The lineup? The team is in good shape, all of them, in good condition overall. We'll have to do something different compared to Cittadella. Surely we can expect some changes from the last two matches; I want a team that is attentive and focused, ready for any situation and any change. Also, regarding variations in the formation, Pisa's philosophy remains the same. The attitude must be consistent, ready, and responsive to whatever happens on the field. The more matches pass, the more I want a mature and aware team. There is satisfaction in seeing everyone getting close to scoring; I like to see that satisfaction spread across all departments. Forwards, but also defenders, and now some goals have come from midfielders too. I would like to see shared happiness, and we are still on the right track. Matches are played by two teams, and we must consider the opponent. There will be adjustments, but our philosophy will not change. On the field, we must be attentive and vigilant to every change. With great humility, we must perform both phases; there will be moments when we have to chase because they will be good at keeping possession. I do not expect a passive attitude from them; they will come to play the game.'
