WOMEN'S SERIE B, MATCHDAY 6, PARMA 7-1 HELLAS VERONA

Noceto, 5 November 2023 - Parma women put on a show on Matchday 6 of the Women’s Serie B Championship on Pitch 1 of the ‘Il Noce’ Sports Complex under the gaze of Club President, Kyle Krause: Parma 7-1 Verona.

After observing a minute's silence to remember the victims of the flood in Tuscany, the match began. Coach, Salvatore Colantuono, trusted Eveljyn Frigotto in goal after her strong performance in the Coppa Italia against Sassuolo and opted for a 4-3-1-2, with Caterina Ferin behind the duo of Sofia Kongouli and Odette Kelly Gago. The midfield three was made up of Elena Nichele, Vivien Beil and Veronica Benedetti, whilst the back four, from left to right: Laurea Peruzzo, Caterina Fracaros, Caterina Ambrosi and Antoinette Jewel Williams. Parma dominated the opening minutes of the match. That start was rewarded with a goal after 10 minutes thanks to Odette Kelly Gago; Sofia Kongouli set her up from the right and the Frenchman anticipated keeper Margot Annie Shore and lobbed her for 1-0. Parma doubled the lead in the 24th minute. Fracaros struck the crossbar and Captain, Caterina Ambrosi was able to pounce on the rebound, scoring with her head but refusing to celebrate against her former team out of respect (2-0).

Parma did not rest on their 2 goal advantage, with memories of San Marino’s comeback still fresh. Parma kept on pushing and in the 35th minute, the referee pointed to the spot after Sofia Kongouli was fouled by Verona goalkeeper, Margot Annie Shore. Caterina Fracaros sent the keeper the wrong way with her penalty and it was 3 for Parma. The fourth came very soon after as Veronica Benedetti led a quick Parma transition and Odette Kelly Gago made no mistake with the finish for 4-0. After a minute of injury time, the teams returned to their dressing rooms for half-time.

Ten minutes into the second half, Parma found their fifth: a beautiful freekick from Caterina Fracaros, 30 metres out, striking the crossbar before crossing the line for 5-0. Parma’s sixth came only two minutes later as Elena Nichele was quickest to react to the rebound from Antoinette Jewel Williams’ shot (6-0).

15 minutes from the end Parma still did not relent, as Anastasia Spyridonidou had enough time from the corner to control the ball in the area and strike home for 7. Verona found a consolatory goal through Alessia Rognoni with five minutes to go; she struck from distance and there was nothing Eveljn Frigotta could do about it (7-1). The match ended 7-1 full-time as Parma overtake Verona in the standings (13 points to 12).
