Born in France and of Armenian descent, Alain began his footballing life at Olympique de Marseille’s academy, the club that he eventually faced in the UEFA Cup final in 1999. After a year with Istres at the start of the ‘90s, Boghossian returned to his roots, playing 28 games (scoring twice) for OM in 1993/94, before joining Napoli in Serie A.

Alain played 69 games for the Partenopei between 1994 and 1997, scoring four goals and earning a spot with the France national team. He made his debut for Les Bleus in 1997 and won the World Cup at France ’98. He moved to Sampdoria that same year and made 36 appearances and scored eight times in a single season for the Blucerchiati. In 1998/99, he joined Parma. During his first year with the Club, he scored in each of the competitions, in which the Crociati were involved that season. Along with three goals in the league, Boghossian got on the scoresheet in both the Coppa Italia and the UEFA Cup – both of which were won by Parma that year – as well as the winner in the final of the Supercoppa Italiana against AC Milan at the start of the following season.
