Born in Agrigento but a true Parmigiano in any sense of the word, Alessandro Melli was one of the most beloved strikers in Parma history.
He came through the ranks of the Gialloblù academy and made his first-team debut on 20 April 1986 with the Club still in Serie C.
He was a key figure in Parma’s promotion to Serie A in the 1989/90 season and scored the second goal in the Derby against Reggiana. During his time with the Crociati, he won one Coppa Italia title, one Cup Winners’ Cup and one UEFA Supercup, before going on to play for Sampdoria, AC Milan, Perugia and Ancona.
After retiring from his playing career in 2001, he was the Club’s Team Manager for ten seasons.

Having taken his first footballing steps in the ranks of Flamengo, the team with whom he made his professional football debut, he arrived in Italy to wear the Inter shirt in 2001.
After a brief spell with Fiorentina, he arrived at Parma in the 2002/03 season. In his two seasons with the Gialloblu, Adriano cemented his status as a rising star of world football, forming a formidable attacking duo with Adrian Mutu. His back heel goal in the home game against AC Milan was unforgettable.
In 2003 he became a starter for the Brazilian national team, with whom he won one Copa América (2004) and one Confederations Cup (2005), racking up a total of 48 caps and 27 goals.

A prolific forward with a great nose for goals, Abel Balbo grew up as a footballer in Argentina, taking his first steps in professional football in the colours of Newell’s Old Boys and River Plate.
He was brought to Italy in 1989 by Udinese, the team with which he was crowned top scorer of the 1990/91 Serie B championship. After five years at Roma, he came to Parma in the 1998/99 season.
In his only season with the Gialloblù, he managed to play a starring role in the Coppa Italia and UEFA Cup victories.
Over the course of his career, he also collected 37 caps and eleven goals with the Argentinian national team, coming second at the 1990 World Cup in Italy and third at the 1989 Copa América. In 2003 he retired from football, starting his career as a coach.

A product of Sampdoria’s academy, he made his Serie A debut with the Blucerchiati at just 17 years of age. After a season with Monza, he joined Parma in the 1989/90.
In that famous season, which saw the Crociati win promotion to the top flight for the first time ever, Ganz made 32 appearances and scored five goals. Two of these goals came at the Stadio Mirabello in Reggio Emilia in the 2-0 Derby win over Reggiana, which firmly etched his name into the fans’ hearts. After spells with various clubs in Serie A and B, he retired from his playing career in 2007 to begin life as a coach.
